Restorative (fillings)
Fillings are one of the most common procedures performed in most dental offices. A filling may be recommended for several reasons including decay, discolouration or fractures. During a restorative procedure for a cavity, the decay is removed from the tooth and a durable, tooth-coloured material is filled into the hole in layers.
Prophylaxis
It’s recommended that you see the hygienist at least every 6 months for dental cleanings. Regular cleanings help prevent decay and gum disease, also known as periodontal disease. Gum disease has been linked to heart disease, strokes, and respiratory illnesses. During a cleaning, tartar and calculus build-up along and beneath the gum line are removed and your teeth are flossed and polished. Fluoride may also be applied to help prevent cavities. The doctor will then perform a thorough examination to check for cavities, infection, gum disease, chipped teeth, and overall oral health.
Appliances
A mouthguard is recommended for patients who complain of grinding or clenching at night, TMD (temporomandibular dysfunction), consistent headaches or migraines, athletes in contact sports, or where teeth have become wore down from bruxism. The doctor will take an impression of the mouth, and the specific appliance will then be fabricated.
Dentures/bridges
Dentures are custom-made to look natural and function as natural teeth would. Our doctors can also fix, adjust/re-line, and add to existing dentures. A bridge is an artificial tooth bonded between two crowns, “bridging” the gap over a missing tooth. A bridge is a permanent fixture, unlike a denture, and supported by natural, neighbouring teeth.
